Face painting and fancy dress are all part of the fun envisaged at late night shopping event Magical Molesey.

On December 1, the night, organised by the Walton Road Traders Association and Molesey Residents Association, will begin at 5pm where Walton Road shops will stay open until late.

The event will also include quizzes, competitions, and carol singing.

Music in the pub

A number of music events are being put on by The Monster Raving Loony Party.

The organisation have a number of events in October and November at their base in the Poynts Arms, Walton Road, East Molesey, including former a Cat Stevens writer.

Alun Davis and Steve Simpson will appear with Good men in the Jungle on October 24, and on October another musician TIm Hain will play a blend of reggae and blues.

Elmbridge Council wants to hear the opinions of young people about a proposed skate park and youth equipment in Molesey.

It wants 11 to 16-year-olds to come to Molesey Youth Club, in Ray Road, West Molesey, on Tuesday November 4, at 6pm.

"Come along at 6pm for pizza - we'll be done by 8pm," said a spokesman.

The Elmbridge branch of the University of the Third Age held the first of a number of Autumn lectures on September 3.

The 'History and Magic of Playing Cards' was the first lecture held at Mole Hall, West Molesey, about the history of card playing from China to the present day.

World record broken

duck-race.jpg.jpgIf you had gone down to the River Thames near Hampton Court Palace on Saturday August 30 you would have seen a sea of blue.

The 'Great British Duck Race' (GBDR) saw 175,000 blue plastic ducks slowly 'bob' downstream to break a new Guiness World Record for 'Worlds Biggest Plastic Charity Duck Race.'

timtothom-dynamic.jpgTwo friends stuffed their faces with a mountain of junk food to raise money for charity - and now they'll run, swim, and cycle off the excess pounds in a quirky triathalon.

Tim Moss, 25, of Green Lane, Molesey, and his University friend Thom Allen, 23, are appealing for sponsors to back them in their fundraising event, called from Tim to Thom.

alison-austin-dynamic.jpgA mum is organising a fundraising wedding ball in memory of her pregnant daughter who died from meningitis.

Alice Austin, 68, is staging the event for her daughter Gillian Redman, of Green Lane, Hersham, who died in March 2004 aged 31. She was 26 weeks pregnant and her baby, called Grace, died a short while afterwards when her lungs failed.

The ball is being held at the Gold Cup Suite, at Sandown Park Race Course, on September 27, and gives women the chance to dust off their wedding dresses and wear them again.

flowershow.jpgEsher Molesey Garden Society held its 91st annual Flower Show on Saturday August 16 at St Nicholas Church Hall, Thames Ditton.

There were about 270 entries which the organisers described as "excellent considering the very changeable weather". These covered a full range garden produce and a home baking and preserves section.

jillstorey.jpgLocal artists are preparing an exhibition in East Molesey on the theme of the River Nile in Egypt and its treasures.

It will be at The Fountain Gallery in Bridge Road from September 30 to October 12, with paintings by Jill Storey and ceramics by Beryl Hole.

mole_hall.jpgThe Shooting Star Children's Hospice is holding a Quiz Night on 12 September at Mole Hall in Bishop Fox Way, West Molesey.

Teams are of six people but if you have less than that we can help you make up a team.
