Have your say on skatepark

Posted by Steve Bax on Oct 16, 08 04:38 PM in Local Authority

Elmbridge Council wants to hear the opinions of young people about a proposed skate park and youth equipment in Molesey.

It wants 11 to 16-year-olds to come to Molesey Youth Club, in Ray Road, West Molesey, on Tuesday November 4, at 6pm.

"Come along at 6pm for pizza - we'll be done by 8pm," said a spokesman.

The skate park is to be funded from the council's capital programme, in addition in April 2008, it was awarded £214,000 from the Children's Play Programme, Big Lottery Fund.

One of the projects in the pipeline is new equipment for older children and young people in a Molesey park or recreation area to encourage greater participation in play and offer more varied opportunities.

By developing play opportunities for older children and young people, we hope to encourage inclusive play opportunities that promote greater social inclusion, in accordance with local need.

Councillor Jan Fuller, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Cultural Services and Borough Youth Champion said "This is a brilliant opportunity for local young people to have their say on their local area. By involving young people in the development of a local park we can ensure that it meets the needs of the young people using it."
